The Importance of Basic Obedience
Basic obedience is extremely important for any dog, large or small, that we expect to live harmoniously with humans. All dogs come with basic dog behavior such as barking, peeing or pooping in the house, chewing on furniture and other valuable objects and tugging on the leash. Teaching your dog basic obedience helps them understand their place in human society. It teaches them to obey simple commands which help them control their behavior. It also teaches them that you are the boss. It gives them an array of new behaviors, such as sit, down and stay that they can use in place of barking, biting and chewing everything in sight. Finally, it teaches them that there are boundaries on their behavior and that some behaviors are encouraged and rewarded while others are frowned upon. Just make sure that you use positive rewards while training (healthy treats, back and belly scratches, etc.) and avoid punishment such as yelling, yanking on a leash and any form of physical punishment.
